Theme Songs

If this blog were to have a theme song, it would probably be The English Beat's "Mirror in the Bathroom", mainly because you can interchange the main lyrics with "Dinner in the Basement" pretty easily.

Despite many a proposal that "Mirror in the Bathroom" is about cocaine, lead singer Dave Wakeling, the King of Ska, insists that he never partook of any nose candy. Instead, he tells the story of going to a restaurant, checking himself out in the glass tables, and thinking "huh... that's weird."  He probably forgot about a song deadline weeks later and parsed together one of the greatest songs of all time from a passing thought. (Because bands have song deadlines?  That's a thing, right?)

That's why we're here today- a passing thought. Every week for date night, my boyfriend and I plop down on our own small, pleather couch to watch the inimitable YouTube show "Welcome to the Basement", experimental drink in one hand, homemade dinner in the other.  We then place the drink on the coffee table so that we can eat our dinner because we don't simply plunge our faces into the plates like animals. (We're mostly civilized, thank you.)

We watch, we laugh, we discuss, we make grand promises to rent the movies Matt and Craig subject themselves to for our enjoyment. And, of course, we always look at each other and vow to send in money the moment it doesn't feel like we're living paycheck to paycheck.  Until then, I wanted to give something back to the community, something that can help make your Basement experience as special is ours is every week.

On this blog, I'll be sharing the recipes I've created for our date nights and the episodes that inspired them. I hope you enjoy them! And if you have any suggestions, please shoot me a message here or @ceraphimfalls on whichever of the social medias the kids find cool this days (because my Twitter stomping grounds are still definitely where all the cool kids hang out).

Here's to you Matt, Tona, Craig, Ernesto, Tiger, Sadie, and Cecil! Thank you for all you do! Skol!
